Garage Dance Ensemble Films

In 2020, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic led to a shift to the digital realm for the creatives at Garage Dance Ensemble. As a result, three dance films were produced between 2020 and 2022.

            1.         “Die Dans van my Heenkoms” (The Dance of my Origins) – A documentary on Hinkel’s first major work set to Ravel’s Bolero (2020).

            2.         “Gat innie Grond, Wond in my Siel” (Hole in the Ground, Wound in my Soul) – A film directed by Byron Klassen, shot and edited by Ruth Smith and inspired by academic Janine Lange’s PhD thesis Storytelling and Memories of Structural Violence in the Northern Cape (2021).

            3.         “Krummelpap, Afval en Sunlightseepbaddens” (Crumbed Porridge, Tripe, and Bathing with Cheap Green Soap) – A film version of Hinkel’s production, directed by Faroll Coetzee, based on the work written by award-winning poet Ronelda Kamfer.

            4.         "ONS/GISTER/DANS: A Faroll Coetzee documentation of the creation of a production that spoke to the narrative of the First Nation Peoples of the Richtersveld.
